Historic Note:

The Master presided over one of the most important years in the history of Easterford. The Bishop of Chelmsford became a joining member and took on the role of Chaplain. There were also three initiates two of whom had distinguished Masonic careers. Dr Salter died on 17th April. The funeral was held on 21st April and before the funeral the Brethren gathered at the Temple for their own memorial service. The Province and Easterford played an important part of the service walking behind the chief mourners with the crowds two deep. P.M. Rev.Carter conducted the service and the committal was by the Bishop of Chelmsford. “Abide with me”was sung and the Brethren of Easterford filed past in a white kid gloves dropping a sprig of acacia

The Master as Chief Cashier of the Bank of England signed the £5 notes of the time. He also invited distinguished guests from London, one of whom was the Grand Treasurer, Sir Charles Batho Lord Mayor of London.
