Historic Note:

John Deal was initiated by his uncle Eric at the age of 21. He was encouraged to be active by his Father and in 1952 as SW gave the address to the initiate before becoming Master. He conducted three initiations one of which was Roger Browning who was the grandson of W.Bro.Richard Browning.Smith who was Master in 1902. The restoration of the interior of the building was completed in June. 1953 was the year of surging high tides and floods and a Flood Relief Fund was set up by the Province to which the proceeds of a generous broken column went to the Fund

In 1958 John Deal set a first by giving a lecture on the five orders of architecture and the seven liberal arts,and sciences; a detailed lecture and the first to be delivered by an Easterford brother.

His organisational skills, excellent rituals and commitment to Easterford was recognised in the Province and he was appointed Senior Grand Warden in 1966 followed in 1967 by appointment in Grand Lodge as Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. He was appointed Assistant Provincial Grand Master in 1973. He held Grand office in Craft, Royal Arch and Mark. In 1987 he persuaded all the North East Essex Lodges to raise £5000 for St.Helen’s Hospice in Colchester

John and is Father were dominant at Easterford for 65 years with a combined service of 114 years.
